Filthy high Street

Would be interesting to know where all the Putney Bid million quid is going to be spent, as PHS is at its very dirtiest worst

I guess no one wants to admit responsibility  for PHS "improvements"...whatever the case, Putney BID refuse to talk to residents, saying they don't represent us, only 'over '400 businesses.'! Find it hard to believe there are that many here, I must say, so who represents the people that live here, and why don't we have a say ? Why are business owners who don't live here making the decisions?  What on earth happened to our elected councillors ? Unfortunately, we have another 5 years of BID, apparently, unaccountable to the council tax payers of LBW for their whims and flights of fancy !!! Well the councillors will be held to account in May at least !

The leading question remains - In what way has money that has been accessed through The Putney Bid aided or improved Putney High Street for residents and visitors to Putney?

Run by a woman who lives outside the LBW...  Well, that does not surprise me in the least.That parklet was used initially mainly by the Nordic customers, but I only saw 3 tables being used at a time.At the moment it is a disgraceful waste of space!

PP claim its for businesses use, but Guillano don't use it as it is too far away, Nordic shop don't use it, and Gails refuse to be members of this obscene Positively Putney Club that claim they represent over 400 businesses, but don't give a toss about residents needs ...run by a woman who lives outside the LBW

The parklet on Lacy Road has certainly replaced one disabled parking space by what used to be Waitrose's side door.  The other, as far as I remember, was a loading bay (?).  While there are now two disabled bays nearer the Waitrose car park entrance, the parklet now does not even have tables and chairs.Not a very wise use of that space.

Can't see any enthusiasm from Thamesfield and any other councillors to take responsibility  for 2 years of chaos, poor judgements, and attention to detail.. Positively Putney have left us with pathetic Xmas tree branches outside mainline Station, and two Xmas snow scenes on abandoned shops, unused parklet on Lacy Road, takes up two parking spaces that could be for mother and baby

I was going to email the council about this very issue as I have been shocked at how quickly the new pavement has been stained and it looks terrible already. They have obviously run out of money as the side they are currently laying opposite the station has very cheap, basic paving slabs which are worse than we had before. The side of the station has marginally better quality slabs - darker polished ones which hide the stains a little better. There’s a section which was only laid a couple weeks ago by the bus stop outside Lost Society is already heavily marked.  So disappointing as I was hoping that the money Putney was awarded by the high street fund would help to regenerate the area but it’s sadly looking worse than ever. The amount of empty shops and permanent rough sleepers in the doorway along with this cheap stained pavement is making Putney look very tired and rundown. In 8 years of living in Putney, I’ve never seen it so bad

A breakdown of the cost would also be good to see.Seems to be little transparency as always around these things.With local elections coming up perhaps we should vote for the party that puts transparency at the top of their agenda?Sadly Count Binface is not running.

I would also like to know who is responsible for the poor choices being made for PHS.  Whatever department it is, they must hate Putney.  When it comes to design choices, it is a visual, uncoordinated mess: Blue, brushed stainless steel, , polished stainless steel, black, grey, green, and let’s not forget the horrible light blue/dark blue Boat Race theme.  Why can’t they just stick to brushed stainless steel, black and grey. Not just the colour scheme, but the design of things like bollards.  Can they stick to one design? Sorry to digress, but I think the street furniture choice is important.

Yes, writing to Fleur Anderson (cc Tim Addlessee and Ravi Govindia?) stating that the paving chosen to widen the pavements along PHS was inappropriate (proven by the subsequent heavy staining) and lack of vision by the designers in considering human behaviour as well as the materials chosen for the planters.It should be clearly stated that we need to know who is responsible for the poor choices made but, above all, steps to be taken to rectify this.  It is all very well that the Council puts the onus on Positively Putney (and vice versa).Enough, they need to take responsibility and solve the problem!

Please see some of the comments made by Tim AddleseePrincipal Engineer, forwarded by Fleur Anderson (received today) in response to my concerns about Putney High Street:1. Re Street Cleaning'The council do not undertake regular pressure washing and hence pavement staining can occur if food or waste is spilt by the public or shopkeepers. The Putney BID manager does have an ongoing programme of jet washing and will add this area to the programme. The next round of pressure washing is due in February, weather permitting, so hopefully it will get picked up then.'Yet, the pavements are continually stained with litter everywhere.2. Re Litter bins'Litter bins near the station have been swapped back for those including the ashtrays.'And what about the rest of the litter bins in Putney one wonders that are without ashtrays?Further questions that the poor state of Putney High Street might include what evidence is there that a great deal of money from the Putney Bid has been spent on the High Street?What strategy is being followed by Positively Putney and Wandsworth Council to improve the the state of Putney High Street?I strongly suggest that that residents with similar concerns write to Fleur Anderson at  fleur.anderson.mp@parliament.uk

I doubt very much that the Putney bid has any connection to street cleaning whatsoever. Try complaining to the council.

Agree, surely the high street could be steam cleaned every now and then?The footfall for the high street is huge, the cost per person would be tiny.The blue bins have not helped with littering of cigarette ends either.
