Traffic

Traffic in the Bus Garage Rd, Putney really bad again today, looks like they also changed the rotation of the traffic lights High Street end of the road. Only a couple of vehicles seemed to get out at a time. Took a while to get out of the road was at a standstill.

Ed you make some good points but are always looking for a Utopian solution. My experience is life ain't like that.

Andy my understanding is 48 hours is for standard concrete which is relatively cheap but costs time causes congestion which in turn leads to more pollution.In highly populated urban area time is more important. Rapid set cement from a number of providers (as shown on the video) can be achieved with 60 mins depending on temperature. I have no idea if these rapid products are used. I suspect the delay has nothing to do with the products and more to do with organising the various people that are needed for the repair.But if we are in a climate emergency and we have extremely profitable companies requiring disruptive repairs then the Mayor should be on top of it!As for the 7/3 day  - if other countries can do it in hours why not the UK?

The ? After 48 suggests not sure.Even at 8 hours that would suggest running into the following day . Ie concrete pour at 10am cured by 6pm so probably following day black top applied .Penalties under current permit system are enforceable if they over run the whole approved time. The onus is on the authority not to allow a 7 day permit force 3 day job.

Traffic lights and temporary traffic lights out at Fulham high st / New Kings Road junction just North side of the bridge.Lane blocked off with police car in the middle of the road. Could not see any police.A well managed 22nd century system?

West Sussex are about to introduce a lane rental scheme for exactly this purpose.Although there are times when there will be no wirkmen on site in any event. Once backfilled and concreted you need to allow the concrete (48hrs? ) to cure b4 putting on the tarmac surface, for instance.

The Mayor should really be on top of this with the climate emergency.Usual reports of no workmen present during much of the time.The utilities should be charged by the minute for emergency work if it means closing roads/lanes.Does the Mayor even have a policy on the issue? It doesn't appear so.

Piecing together comments on Next Door it appears problems were caused by emergency Thames Water work on New Kings Road eastbound near the junction with Fulham Palace Road.
