Lucille. Agreed. Johnson et al are manipulating the UK's democracy for their own purposes. Talk of "levelling up" is just that, talk. There's no evidence of any actions that assist those who are struggling to make a living and many policies seem to penalise this on middle incomes rather than higher or extremely high incomes? Perhaps if there's a real interest in redistributing wealth a ramping up of inheritance tax on estates greater than two three million, including wealth hidden offshore, etc should be considered? (Sorry, bit off topic but just wanted to inject some controversy!)Starmer has a difficult line to tread: the government has such a strong majority that Labour has little influence over results and he has to balance what's best for the UK, his and his party's political principles, and what's best for his party's future. These will not always align but I think he's better at this compromise than Johnson who only seems to consider his own self interest.
