@SH. You still think killing people as punishment is a good thing. Just because, as far as you know, few have been executed falsely, or recently found innocent after many years after conviction you think you can justify it. Basically stating that if a few innocent die then that’s just tough. What a nice lady.

@FF 11.34Not missing the point at all. There have been very few wrongful executions (4), thank goodness, and they occurred when forensic science was in its infancy and long before DNA profiling was even invented. You have missed the point, in that all the cases I mentioned (and they are just the ones I remembered off the top of my head), the murderers are 💯guilty so there would have been no chance of wrongful execution. I posted about humans because you brought them into your post on 10/12.

@FFYour analogy is ridiculous.  Animals have no voice and no defence against human's determination to kill them whether it's by heartless hunters or by euthanasia imposed by dictatorial bureaucrats.  On the other hand humans have a cast-iron💯 guarantee of avoiding a death sentence despite committing the most horrendous, wilful murders.  Unfortunately these abhorrent crimes will continue to happen because our country has a weak judicial system which can be exploited by greedy lawyers and barristers, paid for by legal aid. As for "the hang'em, flog'em types" which I assume you have directed at me because I am in favour of the restoration of capital punishment.Why should evil serial murderers such as Peter Sutcliffe, Fred and Rose West, Harold Shipman, Denis Nilsen etc plus Michael Adebolajo and Michael Adebowale who ran over and then hacked Lee Rigby to death (which was witnessed and captured on cctv) all be allowed to live?  There was absolutely no doubt about culpable guilt in all of these cases and the perpetrators were all sentenced to life in prison at vast expense to the taxpayer.  Apart from the enormous financial burden of keeping them alive these monsters simply do not deserve to live.  For me it is a simple trade off: if a person wilfully takes another's life they have to forfeit their own.

Like the badger cull, yet another example of DEFRA mindlessly following policy for political reasons in the face of the evidence?Still, a good example of why death sentences are never appropriate; there's no way of rectifying them once the real facts are known :-(
