I'm sick of the utter stupidity and blind ignorance of idiots who think some random rubbish they read on Facebook or Twitter trumps scientific evidence. Here, for example, are two actual facts:- Between 2 January and 24 September 2021, the age-adjusted risk of deaths involving coronavirus (COVID-19) was 32 times (thirty-two times!) greater in unvaccinated people than in fully vaccinated individuals (https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/birthsdeathsandmarriages/deaths/bulletins/deathsinvolvingcovid19byvaccinationstatusengland/latest).- An analysis of UK data from the National Immunisation Management Service (NIMS) and the Coronavirus Clinical Information Network (CO-CIN) ... shows that of 40 000 patients with covid-19 who were admitted to hospital between December 2020 and July 2021, 33 496 (84%) had not been vaccinated; 5198 (13%) of these patients had received their first vaccine and 1274 (3%) their second (https://www.bmj.com/content/374/bmj.n2306).And all sympathy to Raj, whose uncle died after receiving the vaccine, but it needs to be stated clearly that purely anecdotal evidence does not imply causality. Furthermore, the Twitter post he quoted is completely deranged: “It is INSANE to MANDATE a vaccine for which one possible rare side effect is DEATH.” Where to go in analysing this nonsense? Start, maybe, by looking at the figures quoted above - but I fear that people lost in this ridiculous fog of misinformation and absurdity are quite beyond rational analysis.
