You seem to think Marr and Kuensberg are/were a bulwark against Murdoch - they are not; their mediocrity is a symptom of Murdoch and his ilk. Whatever - Marr is getting towards retirement age; it shouldn't be any big deal if he moves on. Indeed there is something wrong if a single news media individual's career choices are of any consequence to British politics.

Exactly Ivonne - these are the questions we would ask but apparently not the BBC'd top political correspondent!The Brexit coverage was embarrassing. Citizens outside the UK had expected a detailed unbiased debate. In fact the late night Brexit coverage was just gossip and comedy - shocking!"free TV to Iran....  Anything to do with guilt in the Nazanin case?"Perhaps look at wiki and google. The FO used to pay for it but now it is TV licence payers. As for why I leave that to Boris.

Sorry a source says Michael is right.BBC news coverage has lost all credibility.The Brexit coverage - if you were for or against was embarrassing. It is after all a state broadcaster.There are some gems like the award winning documentary on UK deforestation but a lot of the content is not relevant to the younger generations. And while we provide free TV to Iran it is expensive to those on a tight budget.

I disagree with you.Both Marr and Kuenssberg are very good, but not allowed to be free journalists.  Media entretainers??????I have not watched Newsnight for some time.It is time we all stood up and said no more interfering with the BBC, in the same way we should stand up and say no more interference with the judiciary!

Marr, just like Laura Kuenssberg, has been a dreadful journalist. They see themselves as media entertainers, they don't master their briefs, they shy away from any insightful questions, they pander to the government because that is the only way they get access. Only on Newsnight have we seen useful journalism recently on the BBC.Marr will be replaced by someone government friendly because at present the BBC has in Timothy Davie, a Tory friendly CEO (indeed a former Conservative Councillor in Hammersmith & Fulham) and is at present paranoid about its continued existence.These things go in cycles - when there is next a Labour government, if the BBC has managed to survive that long, there will be some less Tory friendly appointees.

No, Ed, I did not miss the irony from the start or at any time.  Therefore, we must start the conversation as to why a US citizen (or any other nationality for that matter) is allowed to be in government.I assume that Farage is very happy having German nationality too?

"51st state"Appointing an US citizen as the UK's foreign minister may have been a clue if you missed all the others:)Perhaps not as bad as Thailand, that discovered it's appointed PM (installed after a coup) was still a UK citizen. Which meant there were two British Etonian Prime Ministers at the same time - what are the odds??All though I should add that I have no objection in appointing non-UK nationals to PM or other ministerial positions. It should just be done on merit.I do miss Andrew Neil, I always found Marr a bit soft on the right.

Yes, Murdoch is working non-stop to get rid of the BBC.  And it appears the government is agreeing with this.Very much in the same way they are trying to dismantle the NHS.  What was it that John Major said?  "The NHS in the hands of this government is as safe as a hamster in front of a python", or words to that effect.

I will miss Andrew Marr enormously, he certainly is one of the best journalists in the UK.It is a blow for the BBC which is perceived by both, the left and the right, to be biased.But it is true that this government has put its cronies in charge of the BBC.
