Generator

On facebook today a man had broken down in his Electric car, he had his own generator to charge. Which runs off petrol.

But it runs on batteries, you are only charging the batteries.

But why is this a problem? Unless he breaks down for every re-charge, except for this one-off occasion, he is driving an electric car.The main contribution of electric cars to reduction of climate change is that they utilise regenerative braking and thus use less energy. The fact that they run of electricity when needing to top up is neither here nor there at the moment as that electricity is provided by burning fossil fuels. At some future time, many years hence, that might no longer be true. For the time being though, one needs to focus not on the average but the incremental use.

Until there are more chargers this is a good short term strategy. There are also backup batteries, like having a can with a gallon of petrol in the car
