Is this odd?

According to the BBC website tonight, Tory MP Owen Paterson avoids suspensionBut, but......Met officers under investigation "allowed on patrol".Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Although there is a u-turn the big question is about the process.Opposition parties do not want to change the process.The ministerial code is little more than a time-out session.Other countries: France, Israel and even the US to name a few have proper processes. The UK has gentleman agreements that are just not fit for purpose.All major parties have taken it in turns with poor governance let us not forget. The process needs changing not just windw dressing.

Perhaps the 18 Tory MPs who voted against the plan and the 32 who abstained had something to do with it.With luck they and others will feel bold enough to stand up to the shameless guy on other things. Who knows, it might even occur to him that you can't get away with riding roughshod all of the time.

Yesterday I got really depressed because of the news on Patterson and the result of the vote on the standards or, better said on the resulting loss of standards in the HoC.Thankfully, earlier today I heard about Rees-Mogg announcing the U-turn but hearing about Patterson's resignation really made me very happy.  The question of police numbers, or lack of them, falls fairly and squarely on BoJo's shoulders.  I wonder what happened with the promised additional 20,000 officers?  No need to answer....However bitter the pill is, we must swallow and admit that every country has the government it deserves....  :-( :-( :-(

But the government changed its mind when the opposition wouldn't play ball and Patterson's now resigned ...Worrying when police under investigation for serious offences are allowed on patrol because of staff shortages ...Still, people voted for the government even after Johnson's illegal actions in parliament and cuts in police before the election.

No, perfectly normal UK behaviour.Political parties have no real interest in reforming these institutions.
