Been listening to Sir Lyndsay Hoyle and various MPs in the chamber speaking about this well liked and respected man. I wonder if Angela Rayner will have any more to say about 'Tory scum'?

The local printers and designers will benefit from all the rebranding and reprinting of the new city’s publications, vehicle branding and signage etc. The cost for all of that might not be a ‘benefit’ for the local council tax payers though.

The designation of "city" is just a symbolic status, I don't think there are any direct benefits.

So, because it's relatively important, but what does Southend being designated a city actually do for it and will it actually impact the new city, economically, politically, etc.

Good to see Sir David's wish that Southend becomes a city has been realised. (In my teenage years I lived nearby in Wickford although I really consider myself a Londoner.) Let's hope some more of his wishes relating to animal welfare are now enacted as well; no more illicit fox hunting! His murder is a bad day for democracy whatever our political allegencies :-(
Wonderful news about Southend being made a city approved by the Queen, and a fitting reminder of a decent MP who will be remembered for a long time.

The PM has just announced that Southend will now be accredited as a City as a tribute to Sir David. A worthy and fitting gesture.
