Professor John Burland, of Imperial College, who built computer models of what had and was currently happening to the leaning tower and devised the temporary mechanism of lead counter weights to stabilise the movement and the soil extraction techniques to move it back (with some help from his PhD students and others) - seen here with some of the monitoring equipment at the base of the tower, October 18 https://flic.kr/p/2artvkZ
