Too many small energy companies were set up and attracted customers by offering cheap deals to undercut the market. This was always going to be unsustainable in the long term but greed skewed logic and got the better of them. I couldn't be bothered to keep chopping and changing my energy company to try and save a few quid but took advantage of fixed rate terms when they were on offer.

I've been through this several times before (consequence of always going with the cheapest supplier). It runs pretty smoothly usually, although I did have to go to the Ombudsman to get my money back from Together Energy (they were collapsing under the strain of managing all the new customers they took on) after I was transferred to them when Economy Energy (I think) collapsed. Hopefully this move will go smoothly. As soon as we are settled with Octopus there should be a window where you are allowed to transfer again without penalty, so a chance to look at what remains of the market and find the 'best' (least bad) deal

Octopus is interesting in that they will pay you for any electricity you make on your solar panels and don't want now that the Govt feed-in tariff has gone.

I agree Andy. In the leaked letter 18 months ago it highlighted issues with the market. The interesting thing is they have not switched customers to the big 6.When Yorkshire Energy went bust I was switched to BG.Perhaps they are trying to boost the medium sized companies??

The half million customers who depended on Avro to cook their meals and heat their homes perhaps have taken more than a passing interest in this. The messages it is sending about the UK's gas supplies are also of interest to many more. Strikes me this is more newsworthy than minor traffic delays on the M25.

Interesting all this anx over businesses going bust that clearly had an unsustainable business model.
