Ed. I'm actually a fan of virtual desktops from an IT management point of view. I piloted some in a company circa 1999 for remote access and home working. It wasn't viable to roll them out further because of software licensing costs and issues with large print volumes over networks. As Matt says, some people use them, others don't because there are pros and cons; these days they are available as "cloud" services which probably makes them more cost effective.
It's how many companies have been able to switch quickly to home working during the pandemic.
