The thing with bigamy is that the 2nd spouse usually doesn't know the first one exists. That's a remarkable deception which the law should not encourage. However, if parties are aware what's going on, an anti-bigamy law is increasingly anachronostic. There are all kinds of issues with benefits, pensions and inheritance which would require to be resolved, but on the face of it, if someone wants two husbands (or 2 wives), and both husbands/wives are happy with such an arrangement, why should the law interfere? There is no law against living with multiple sexual partners, nor against having more than one contemporaneous sexual relationship or indeed against sex with multiple partners at the same time. Given most cohabiting couples don't even bother to get married these days, laws dictating who can and who can't get married seem an unnecessary restriction on personal freedom.
