I don't know why people are so touchy but I do think we all need to get news from more than one source to avoid too much political bias.  Some online papers are more accessible than others of course!

Oh honestly! I posted something previously from the Mail as a person and not a rep of the Putney Society and got stick for that, being it's a 'sensationalist paper' etc etc. So this time I apologised in advance, fearing the same response, and I get stick for that too. If people post from the Guardian, or the Telegraph they get comments too. It was just a fun story on e scooters or the equivalent in 1916! No snobbishness or insult was meant. Honest.Vicky

It is also supposed to be a paper that a lot of women read.I think it is probably a very good paper to get your campaigns for or against something into!

Frankly I thought Vicky's "Sorry it's the Mail" comment was very snobby and seemed to be trying to garner favour with the Guardian readers on this forum.I don't take offence easily but that comment really got my hackles up!

Philippa:    "What's so special about The Mail?" What makes it special is that it is the most biased of all the tabloids, outclassing even the Sun. I agree with other contributors that most papers have their own bias, but the Mail carries it to Olympic standards. By the way, someone once said that the Mail's main editorial intention is to make people angry. It seems to be succeeding.

Why apologise for posting an article from any newspaper?  Surely it is because there is always someone who doesn't like that particular newspaper?  They just have various biases or their owners or editors do.  What's so special about The Mail?

Don't they all have nicknames eg the Daily Wail, the Grauniad, the Torygraph etc.  I thought the Mail had a bit of a reputation for sensationalism.

All media has its own political agenda.The question is do they do real journalism in addition to it? By journalism I mean seeking the truth when it may be unpopular and back their journalists against the state when necessary.Sadly a lot of media nolonger do."Daily Mail journalist Stephen Wright has written about the Lawrence case, both before and subsequent to the prosecution. But this thread has been started by a member of The Putney Society.  Why are they apologising for referring to a Mail article? I posted fairly recently about 2 items on Mail Online about Putney and did not feel any need to apologise for doing so.

It is a good idea to look at the Daily Mail from time to time, though it is a bad idea to rely on it as an only or  main news source. That is because it has its own political agenda and doesn't even try to be objective. Beware its treatment of race, royalty and anything to do with the EU. Otherwise dipping into it is a good way to find out what people whom you disagree with are thinking.
