Sadiq Khan Warns XR ~ LBC News

Sadiq Khan concerned Extinction Rebellion is 'driving people away' Speaking to LBC the Mayor of London said while there is a serious climate emergency he was concerned protests by Extinction Rebellion could "discourage" people from joining his campaign to ensure COP26 is a success.Mr Khan said some of the tactics used by the climate change group lead to demonstrations that are "unlawful, not peaceful and not safe."https://www.lbc.co.uk/news/sadiq-khan-extinction-rebellion-damage-cause/This has been clear to me for months of listening LBC callers that XR has pushed its anarchical methods too far.  Khan has got the message at last ... 🙄

A few weeks back we watched someone riding a mobility scooter up a very steep hill on the coast. We were very impressed.  I reckon those riders get more access than a lot of people in cars.

Barbara:  It's a discussion forum and I'd be surprised if I did answer all of them. Why are you posting if you don't expect replies and discussion?  As for cycles there are more types of cycle than most people are aware of from the replies that you get.  There are a lot of cyclists at the Paralympics - yet many people don't seem to think further than two wheeled cycles and what they think they can't do.  There are other cycles to try including electric ones!

Many people now read their newspapers of choice online.  Some of them are behind a paywall or they put some articles behind a payeall.  Climate change wasn't mentioned in the newspapers of some newspaper companies.

Y'all really think the price of Newspapers and who owns them are gonna stop people from learning about XR. You're using it, the Internet. Most of my friends don't even buy the papers regularly and when they do, it's to read a specific interview or magazine article. We, including everyone here, can get all the media we need from a simple search online, through any search engine. Hell, some wierdo's that use BING get the top stories in a scrolling bar at the bottom of the pretty image they have everyday.

Matt she is not very convincing with her excuses is she? If she is right then none of us should scrap our diesel vehicles.Or is she just agitating for a govt compensation scheme for her diesel and then abandon XR. It does seem she is rather self centred.

I guess the diesel v new car conundrum depends on how much mileage one does. If one drives only a few miles a day then sticking with a polluting diesel vehicle might be more justifiable than a new one and the environmental damage done by it's production.I suspect a grass fed cow produces as much methane as a factory farmed cow - it's just happier doing it til it gets executed? :-)

Now that's not quite what I said Andy, It's great for all of us to do as much as we can, but we need the government legislation to make a real difference.Ref: Gail and her diesel car, her defence is that it's better to keep an older car then replace it with a new one, with all the carbon that comes from it's manufacture.... I'm not defending her on it!Enjoy your steak!

But Phillipa you missed Mr XRs pist that told us it's not what we as individuals do that matter. Although he was trying to defend his leader who drives her kids to school on a diesel vehicle.🙁🙁For my part I'm going on a plant based diet. As organic cattle are reared wholly on grass I'm having a nice big plant based steak for my tea.

Climate change caused by green house gases?  Reducing them?  There is more and more information and there are webinars about the positiive actions we can all take and I'm sure some of us are already aware of and taking!I've already posted a little video someone from Unicef made about one of the poorest countries that is suffering most from extreme weather.  A country which creates very little greenhouse gases compared to us which makes it seem so unfair.  Did you watch it?

Although it is about drawing attention to the Climate Emergency and the lack of Govt action, there are particular different aspects eg the fact that newspapers owned by a handful of billionaires were not reporting anything about it and the fact that the way we are living is causing problems and contributing to it.  Tell the truth!As far as I've followed different days may be different actions.  We need t see changes to be able to deal with the problems!

Sadiq Khan, is more worried not so many people are being charged going into London (Congestion Charge). Because XR are causing blockages.

Barbara - Khan has effectively given most petrol/diesel cars an extra 4 years of life.Unless I have missed something I can not see any changes from the mayor around EV policy.I'm not clear how he is going to meet his 2030 target. Or be more precise meet the proportion of it during his term!

Well we haven't anymore charging points in our road. So what is Khan doing for people to buy EV. A TV reporter it said was going into work and said another Electric charging point not working. Also don't know if anybody else has noticed but they have put the price of Newspapers up again.

Khan is speaking out against your lot because he realises (at last) that the public are increasingly turning against XR. Khan never lets a bandwagon go past without hopping on it.
