Philippa, one rule for some in their big 4x4's dropping stuff off for XR. but they don't want anybody else to have vehicles. You don't live in this area, so give it a rest or join them up town. Throw paint everywhere, shake your banner. You like what their doing I don't.

There was no need to put stickers on the Bridge again."I know and understand the broken windows theory but don't see that those reminders of the changes we all need to make and to our lifestyles and the lead we need our Govt to take would be a problem.XR is a worldwide organisation.  It is about the world. It is not just about London and uptown London.

Barbara - your post on the thread "Do what I say not what I do":"XR protesters being dropped off in a Volvo 4 x 4. Some people must be the little people who do all their dirty work. But the rest can drive their 4 x 4's ."Maybe some protesters and some supporters of XR have friends or relations who drive 4x4s and maybe some even have them themselves?

As much as I dislike XR ( not their beliefs but tactics) it's a hell of a connection you make Barbara with their stickers causing a random attack on the bridge. 1 step too far methinks.

Lynne, the last time stickers had been put on the bridge, there was then trouble with a couple of young boys being attack as they came over the Bridge on their way home. It gives off the idea that the area is rough.  You should keep the area nice, it is one of the most expensive places to live. The Demo from XR is uptown which is stopping people getting to work. We share the air with other countries and the UK Govt has been taken to the High Court and lost several times over air pollution here and lack of strategy in combatting it.  They also lobbied the EU to get them to change the figures so that our air pollution would not seem so bad.When there were recent fires in Florida the smoke reached us, fallout from Chernobyl reached us, sand from the Sahara can and does sometimes reach us, smoke from volcanoes in Iceland has reached us. It isn't just a local challenge it is a global one. Remember the volcano that stopped the air traffic and pushed many businesses into starting to use virtual technology for their international meetings instead of travelling? Well together with the pandemic that has now increased with many of us now confident or more confident to use Teams or Zoom whether for business or keeping in touch with family and friends or just fun.Some changes are more complicated than others but just thinking about ourselves isn't the answer and neither is it constructive to think that because other countries don't seem to be changing as fast is it a reason for us to hide or deny it and not face the challenge.https://www.ucl.ac.uk/bartlett/news/2021/aug/transport-cities

There was smog in certain parts of London, due to coal burning. Thousands did die as a result of the great smog of '52. In response we passed the Clean Air Act, to limit what people could do to contaminate the environment with their home and factory fires. This is not unlike what Matt and his crew are suggesting we do now - pass laws to restrict burning materials which harm the environment.Yes we had floods. But this is like saying we had weather or we had a climate. The point about climate change is that we will get bigger floods, more often.

I am not too sure about this statistic Philippa.  The population of the UK is 66.65 million.  That would make it 4.3 cars per person.  I do not think so.

Michael, the Air was worse years ago when I was young, with smog and coal fires. We still had floods, Canvey Island, hot weather in 1976. The Council can't even sort out the Properties people live, ever thought their disgusting conditions and mould might also have something to do with their breathing.

One may disagree with the protest methods of Extinction Rebellion but perhaps the twerps are those who ignore the realities of climate change and pollution?There was an interesting point made in New Scientist last week: people don't want their children to drink polluted water but many ignore the polluted air they're breathing.

Yes, and get rid of filthy muck worms that make Putney look untidy. Waste all the Government money on more Police that have to cancel their holidays instead of looking out for criminals.  While they have to watch twerps all day chanting and shaking their banners.

The XR posters I've come across in the past were such beautiful works of art that I photographed them.The message is right there but very difficult to get across to some people!

I believe these ones look much better, I heard that a lot more paste was used to try to get them to last a bit longer.No doubt Babs will have her way with them eventually though so nip over quick if you want to see them.

I have not seen these new posters but the previous ones that were halve torn did not look too good.Perhaps the real issue is the quality and the application of the art work?

I was referring to a comment further up this thread, which was about Quill Bridge.My general comment, about us having to clear up mess ourselves is clearly about XR and nothing to do with planters. Why are you obsessed with planters when our environment is being taken to hell in a handcart?

They wouldn't need to pay more to the Police if you were not sitting with your cronies blocking roads. Go and sit outside Sadiq Khan's house he has just been caught driving with 3 vehicles just to take his dog for a walk 4.5 miles. He must need so much protection because he's scared somebody will do something to him. Everybody is meant to get rid of their vehicle, what an ar=se.

I don't know what you are asking for, nor do I care much - I was referring to this: "Have  repeatedly reported to Councillor John Locker and Putney Society and sent photos to organise a cleanse".But as to asking Matt Palmers XR cronies to stop "making a mess", that's really funny. It is entirely the point of XR. We are all making a mess and we and our mates should stop doing it and start clearing it up!

Sorry, thought it was simple enough - someone was asking for a council clean-up; I've no problem with the stickers being there and don't want my council tax wasted on such a thing. Anyone who feels strongly about it could take them off themselves. I'm all for small government and that's what it means.

£50 million the Government to get the Police on the Streets to keep order while the XR cause all their trouble. This money could have gone on Hammersmith Bridge, or sorting out the disgusting state of some of the Councils Properties that people have to live in. The World has gone mad.

Penelope, looks like new posters on Quill bridge, old on one side and new on the other. Also on lamp posts on Putney Bridge Rd. There just turning Putney into a dumping ground for their trash and litter and don't tidy up after themselves.

Last time I looked, Quill Bridge was still covered in remnants of XR posters. Have  repeatedly reported to Councillor John Locker and Putney Society and sent photos to organise a cleanse, but no one seems bothered, so I reached a point where  I'm not now, eventhough Charlwood Road is supposed to be in a Conservation area, and Bridge should be listed.. New graffiti on White Lion grade 1 listed building too, and cinema.. Let's enjoy the Mr Ben trivia everywhere. After all, we shouldnt  be proud of heritage should we?

Has Banksy done any pictures about the Climate Emergency?  The last one I saw was of a young boy fishing in the river who has caught a face mask on the end of his line.  I believe he has been on spraycation around the coast this summer.
