Got an email, supposedly from BT, to say I was due a refund!! Hardly likely, so watch out everyone, probably want bank details to repay the refund!!

On the subject of scams, one of my linked in contacts posted this link for reporting possible scam websites to the NCSChttps://www.ncsc.gov.uk/section/about-this-website/report-scam-website

.be is for Belgium. That's a first!I don't think that Norton which is an antivirus will filter your emails, that's the task of your email host and they probably get 90% that won't even make your spam box, 9% that go into the spam and unfortunately 1% that makes it into your inbox. You can also get a free antivirus, I haven't paid for one in 20 years.

Had email this morning purporting to be from HMRC saying I have a £240 tax refund. Click on this or I can't claim it online. It's the .be which gives it away. Could that be Belarus? It's been forwarded to HMRC phishing and now been deleted. But what's the point of paying Norton if this rubbish gets through?

DPD have been unable to deliver a parcel to me and want all sorts of info for redelivery apparently.I'm not aware that I should be expecting one. It is rather a shame to have to lose that thrill and surprise of a genuine unexpected parcel and to now have to be so cynical about everything.Instead of ignoring them all perhaps we should try and make more of an effort to report these things more often - but yes - that is very tiresome too.

There are various industry initiatives to address fraudulent emails (for example, DMARC) but because the original email protocol is inherently insecure they're "bolt-ons" that have limitations and aren't supported by all email providers, ISPs, etc so will never be 100% effective, and can also result in valid emails being rejected and not being deliver. We just all need to be vigilant and pass on information.
These scams are really trying and tiresome!
