I totally agree. The news about Afghanistan are frightening as they are depressing.I cannot imagine how our service men are feeling at the moment, but insulted is the minimum that comes to mind.History should have taught us many things but politics, or politicians, think differently.We were told that the American and British Armies were training the Afghan military.Today it show that the only thing they did was give basics, if that is what you want to call them.Shame on all the American and British Governments for having lied to all of us, and the Afghans!  Horrific is too short a word to describe it all!

The gun control laws in the UK are pretty tight after Dunblane - though not tight enough to have deprived this individual of the opportunity to commit multiple murder, including that for a small child.I wonder if, after he had begun to show signs of mental health issues on social media, this could have been avoided if he had been locked up/sectioned then.

More mixed messages?Slightly off at a tangent, but worth remembering that New Zealand had fewer than 3,000 cases and 30 deaths ... mainly through people and process? Yes Michael I,My understanding may be wrong - zero covid is the objective that you work towards. In the same way that we treat fire. We will always have fires but we don't just let them burn through - we tackle them as quickly as possible - containing them.Let's not forget ventilation too :)

Ed. I'm not sure the zero Covid is achievable (after all, flu still persists in the community), I think what should be aimed at is "minimal" Covid position? I agree that vaccination is not enough; I think we should be aiming at the good old "people, process and technology" approach:We've actually been quite good with the technology - vaccines produced in less than a year, quick development of tests & use genomic sequencing, transmission modelling;The processes are an area we've fallen short on - test, trace & isolate, movement controls & quarantining;Finally, people - social distancing, mask wearing, hand cleansing - is always going to be inconsistent unless there are clear messages and strong leadership, unforunately Cummings, Hancock and Johnson's failure to immediately condemn and sack them have worked against this aspect. However, in spite of that I think the majority of people have tried to follow the rules in the interest of others?Obviously, a potential failure of relying too much on vaccinations rather than other ways of limiting the virus is the possibility of a new vaccine resistant variant developing while a large number of cases persist in the UK and elsewhere.

One question please, regarding the vaccination "passport".I used to travel quite a bit for work a few years ago and, depending on the country I travelled to, I needed yellow fever, tetanus, etc.  All these injections were included in a yellow booklet that I took with me.  I had no problem whatsoever with this booklet - or the injections for that matter.Based on this yellow booklet, I cannot understand why there is such a problem with vaccination "passports".  Is it the name?  What is it that people object to this, please?Thank you.

It's sad in a way, I wouldn't wish Mr Brown or anyone else ill because of their lack of knowledge.  I've seen a number of US news reports of "antivaxxers" who have become seriously or terminally ill from Covid-19 who've expressed their regrets about ignoring the science. Of course, just because one believes the science and wants to follow sensible advice doesn't mean we shouldn't be vigilant and question the motives of those determining our fate. I don't trust a lot of what Johnson et al say but I'm willing to listen to those doing the modelling, statistics and science. Of course one might also question are controlling measures being lifted too soon as opposed to being retrained too long if one thinks Johnson is listening to party donors rather than the scientists? Not saying that's the case, just something one needs to consider.

I haven't read every single item in the thread, but the yellow card reporting system has been known about for years, and is, I think, on every leaflet with every prescribed drug. We reported side effects to a drug at least 10 years ago. It's not been a 'secret', and I suppose if you don't read leaflets of your medication, you probably wouldn't hear about it. If you do have side effects, your GP is supposed to report them if you tell them about them too.

Dear MichaelI thought I'd seen it all: new-ageism, Santanism, Christian fundamentalism and the sort of late night conversations some of my student day peers used to have.  But what these nutcases have (or had) in common is or was keenness to make assertions, without the inconvenience of having to back them up with evidence, science, or even philosophy.  So why are you taking up space on the Putney Forum?  Putney people are, as a rule, better educated than average, and thus unlikely to swallow whatever it is that you are trying to explain (better: witter on about) here.PS: to make a point, short sentences are better than long, and certainly better than a sentence so long it has to have a paragraph of its own.

We already know that the jab is lethal and this is being covered up by the main stream media.
