Oh, I agree!!! I could not cope with the spiders in Australia! A niece of mine sends pictures of them and they are huge!I do not mind the spiders in the garden and at a distance. Not so happy when they try to come into the house in the autumn! My husband is very good, gets a glass and a piece of paper and outside they go. I tried to do this once but have not attempted it since!

Thanks, Ivonne. It was a fine specimen, hanging around in our garden. I think British spiders get a poor press, they're good at catching house flies. I might feel differently if I lived in Australia...
