Damp in basement

Hi all Just wondering if anyone can recommend a company to deal with damp on the basement bedroom floor? I am wondering if It would be advisable to use a builder over a damp proofing firm? Thanks Britha

I second that. There are plenty of people who will turn up with a damp meter, mis-use it to generate a few readings with which they inform you that you have damp and then proceed to expensively treat the symptoms without trying to find out the cause. If you do have damp, water is getting into the walls somehow. You have to stop that before treating the effects

Before approaching a builder or damp-proofing firm its as well to remember they are only after your money! First step is to have a survey carried out to determine the cause of the damp and what options may be available to eradicate the problem. Once you know precisely what needs to be done its easier to control the process and outturn costs. Take it from a retired architect.
