I hate this weather!😧 Looking forward to some thunderstorms which will hopefully bring down the temperature and lower the humidity level. Exhausted and peed off in Putney. 😵💫

Hello Alexander,I agree with you, the bowl of ice cubes in front of the electric fan works brilliantly!
Ivonne Holliday ● 1093d
You can do that for your hot dog too! And maybe cat but they're harder to please

Too late for now, but maybe later this summer. Fill a bowl with ice cubes and place it between an electric fan (switched on) and your head. A cool solution.

So do I!! But please remember, walk your dogs at the coolest part of the day (very early or very late) and always take water for both you and your dog!!! Also, put out water for the birds.

I love the hot weather!

Now that easier than sheets! I just hate having to make my bed when tired just before bed.

I have window locks. Be careful if you don't. I used to live somewhere where we had louvre windows and there were some very good fisherman about!Put your sheets in the freezer was another suggestion! I'm passing on that - too much hassle. I failed on the cold hot water bottle too because the bottles hadn't been used for so long that I couldn't get any water into them at all! :( Cold flannels are good especially on pulse points (don't ask me). Keep blinds down on sunny rooms during the day and cool down bedroom before you go to bed. When we were in countries with a/c we would put it on in the bedroom but turn it off before going to bed (otherwise everybody seemed to get ill).Wear loose or no clothing in natural fabrics. I got into a 70s cotton kaftan recently and it was so comfortable! Remember cheesecloth?
Pop a pillowcase in the freezer (in a plastic bag) and put it on the pillow just before you get into bed. Such a good cooling sensation!

Glad to see the Guardian is keeping up with modern housing :)

Sue, put a hot water bottle in the freezer and sit with it on your lap or even take it to bed, works a treat

This is something I posted three years ago. I hope many of you can read it because I can't.I see so many sash windows not open in the best way to keep the house cool. Here's an explanation of how this Victorian design works:https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1438187/Experts-reveal-best-way-to-keep-cool-open-the-window.html(The answer by the way in this university study (Imperial I think) is to have the top and bottom sashes both open a little so that cold air is drawn in at the bottom and hot air flows out of the top.) We think that this low tech solution works. We are lucky also that we an open doors or windows on either side of a house so that air can flow through. Pity the poor folk who don't know how to dress for the heat and don't know how to cool down, and can't open their windows or get a through breeze when the electricity fails.
Agreed. It is hot! Although I quite like it some rain later to cool it overnight and water the garden would be good.I was saying to my wife that this is the sort of weather for climbing over Mycenean ruins in Greece 🙂
well not too heavy rain I hope, as our cellar flooded, as the drains in the road could'nt take all the water.
