kestrel

An absolutely amazing sight  Kestrel flew into my communal back garden which is fairly enclosed but has a variety of bushes and trees, and cats It seized its prey and settled under a bush where it stayed long enough for me to go and get my mobile and photograph it  Unfortunately, as most people are aware, I am not tecno minded in any way whatsoever, which is a real shame, as the odds of this happening is pretty rare and I would like to share the photo  I do see kestrels over the common often but they are always airbourne.  The colours and markings on tail fantastic I cannot believe my good fortune

Had a sparrowhawk in my back garden off PHS a few weeks ago.. Got some amazing pictures of it grabbing a juvenile starling, which managed to escape..

We were in Oxford recently where there are a lot red kites as they were reintroduced around there.  You often see them overhead when you are on the M40 and I've got used to their shape.This time we were in the countryside and they were flying over the house and calling.  I'd never heard that before.I've seen peregrine falcons as there were certainly some nesting on Charing Cross Hospital and Chichester Cathedral.  You could watch some of these on webcams over the internet as well and I watched them teaching their young to fly and catch prey.  Sadly I also saw one caught in netting at Hammersmith Hospital once.  Such lovely stripes.I've never seen enough different birds of prey to be able to recognise their shape when flying - except the red kite!You were lucky to get such a good view of one.  Most recently I've seen a lot of ducklings goslings and moorhen chicks and they grow up so fast (if they aren't predated) so worth visiting often if you get the chance and the parenting is so different.  The geese are the most amazingly protective parents!
