It's true we can't stay in a permanent lockdown. However, when the original plan for "freedom day" was outlined, apart from the fact that it was a silly name, I don't think enough details were known about the delta variant. From what I've read we need to wait until at least 70% of the population has been vaccinated and be sure about its efficacy against the delta variant before rules on masks and distancing are relaxed to far. I also can't see a need for foreign travel unless it's essential for visiting relatives who are unwell or other family emergencies, and certain business requirements. Most meetings, however, can be done using Zoom, Teams, etc, and holidays abroad aren't essential. Alkthough it doies seem that in practice, unless it's enforced by venues, most social distancing seems to have been abandoned. I'm not saying a full lockdown needs to continue just that sensible measures need to be continued to contain and mitigate the effects of thee virus. Perhaps if the economies can't survive the pandemic it highlights problems with capitalism that need to be fixed?
