Nationwide

Just had a letter saying the Nationwide in Putney is shutting end of September, also Clapham Common, Clapham Junction. So that the nearest is Southside Shopping Centre. Hammersmith.

Jonathan, I rang Putney when I received the letter today as I have used them for 52yrs Putney. The young man who answered new me, he said it was a shock for them as well as they had only just found out. I don't think there is a branch in Sheen either. I said Wandsworth Southside will be busy, what a pain. It was so easy to just walk into Putney Branch.

A great shame. We use them a lot and last time I was in there I asked them if they were staying. They said yes of course. Full story here. I was reading recently about somewhere where banking was being offered in a building by a mixture of staff from different banks - just so that there was a facility in the town.  It is harder in the country where there may be no banks in a town at all.So many bank and building society branches have closed or are closing, together with post offices.  Apparently many more people went online during lockdown and it is making it a lot more difficult for those who are not doing their banking online and prefer to do it in person.
