Gutter clearing

We desperately need to have the gutter cleared after the recent heavy rain. Any recommendations, please?

And when my FIL was a boy he and his friends would shout "car" and rush to see because they were an unusual sight.  How short a history they have had - yet how reliant we have allowed ourselves to become.

ah, remember the days when we would play in the road and once in a while one of us would shout "car" and we would slowly saunter out the road...good times ;-)

What I didn't say on this particular thread was that we did have to take the gratings off the long drainage gully and bail out some bucketsful of water to throw on the garden at the height of the rainfall.We're obviously going to have to take action to re-think and re-route some downpipes and so very very lucky we were around and it wasn't after we had gone to bed and it wasn't as severe as in Germany.Now that there are so many cars parked on the roadsides it obviously makes it much more of a palaver to clean roads and drains and finding places to park when it is happening in your road.  Keep up the pressure.  I have seen Thames Water lifting drain covers in the middle of the road very late at night presumably because that it is easier to deal with them when there is little traffic.  They also go around listening for leaks at night.

Almost exactly the same happened in our road and I was given a parking ticket at 7.05am. Parking control starts at 9.30am. I complained and they refunded me my £65 saying the ticket wasn't valid.

Parking was suspended in our road a few weeks ago so the gutters and drains could be cleaned and cleared. The work team never came but a traffic warden did, ticketing someone at 7am before he could come out and move his car.  He’s appealed, outcome still awaited.

there are 2 drains in my road that have been blocked for years, in fact there are plants growing in them. I have contacted the council twice in the last 10 years, once to the Thamesfield councillors directly and once through the council website, I'm still waiting....

Tragically i'd been thinking to myself for ages that our gutters needed cleaning but not done anything about it.paid the price yesterday as water started pouring into a bedroom!

So glad we did clean out the gullies as that was an enormous amount of rain in a short amount of time and if we hadn't been around we would have worried!  Luckily it all stayed outside - just - and then receded. There were flash floods all over London.This just shows how important it is to not add to the problems by pouring stuff down the sink or flushing stuff down the loo that you shouldn't.  It is really unpleasant if it starts coming back up and out of the loo. Not everywhere has a system where both sewage and rainwater go down the same pipes as they tend to do in Victorian and Edwardian London.

We used Richard Cole and fortunately he came along this morning - just in time given the monsoon we’ve just had. He removed a load of gunk from the gutters and drainpipes. Highly recommended. May now do the same job for both our neighbours.

Tremendous rainstorm causing flooding in Edinburgh this week - there are some startling pictures.  We keep checking to make sure there are no leaves or moss blocking our rainwater gullies - just in case we're next!

Large article on the front page of Forum of who not to use. Just proves you can't trust people who knock on your doors, we had this a couple of years ago with painters.

We used Richard Cole Homepride Cleaning Services 020 8560 3354 and 07956 288060. Based in Twickenham. He did a good professional job and we were pleased with the results.
