Howard Davies admits 3rd runway not needed

I didn't hear Davies on LBC yesterday but have listened to the clip on You Tube. He now says the 3rd runway isn't needed, probably not for 10 years. How about that.

Complaining about noise and comparing it about Unilevers  depreciation policy! Move & your problem is gone.

I remember going to one exhibition and there was a placard saying something along the lines of the 3rd runway would boost GDP by, I think it was something like £60bn. I thought I don't suppose we can argue against that. Then I looked again and it said over 60 years or some such timeframe. I thought, on an annual basis that's less than Unilever's ebitda. I agree about the noise. When a plane goes over my house it's LOUD. I just wish expansionists like Davies and May would acknowledge the damage and harm of life blighting aircraft noise.When Davies says Heathrow would be happy if they could fill two runways my heart sank as they could try to get away with never giving us the half day's respite. Because as an expansionist he hasn't conceded our arguments against expansion; it's the pandemic which did it.And what is it with Theresa May? She is continually complaining about the plight of the aviation industry, never acknowledging what she had us lined up for.

Good. Even before the pandemic the economic case for a third runway looked pretty shaky. Now back to the perennial topic of aircraft noise. 4.30am flight noisier than usual this morning thanks to open windows on the hottest night yet, followed by three more (I think) before 5am. And now it’s 10.30pm and another late flight has just thundered over. Apparently they’ve been patching up the north runway today so we’ve had all the incoming traffic all day. I know we all have to live with the noise but sometimes it’s more than a pain and a real intrusion.
