Smoking

More smoking bans are being brought in, according to news reports, and as a non-smoker I don’t like smoking, however there are some people who have to smoke. My concerns are for the mentally ill who use cigarettes as a sort of relief against their medication.  They often lead lonely lives as it is, without more restrictions on where they can smoke.  I think the current restrictions are fine without bringing in more.

I suppose it is because outside has now become the new inside - for dining and drinking.  Most people got used to not smoking inside and I was amazed at youngsters just automatically going outside for a smoke.  It is older people who haven't adapted to the change I've found.  It can be useful to have a good reason to not smoke somewhere as it might be something you wouldn't try otherwise.

I broadly agree Martine,Although the current restrictions regarding littering of cigarette butts does not seem to be enforced. Often from from cars, pavements or communal areas and public areas. As with all these things it's a small minority of smokers who are inconsiderate.Perhaps a bit of enforcement with the current rules before adding new one.

I see this is not national legislation but some local licensing restrictions mainly related to outdoor eating and drinking on or next to pavements.
