yet another scam

Re Amazon this time.  E-mail telling me to verify account. Getting very weary of this.  Was very plausible but I'm so suspicious of everything these days.

Paul and Duncan, I do have a mobile which I only use when I am meeting friends. I resent the increasing tyranny of the mobile phone. There's so many things for which a mobile number is demanded. I wanted to reorder a prescription from my GP surgery. Nowadays I have to do this via Patient Access  (don't get me going on that). Last time it demanded a mobile number and wouldn't progress until I'd submitted one. As I don't keep the thing perpetually charged, and I'm not looking at it every 10 seconds, I didn't want to tie myself to it, so I made up a number. 12334 etc. No idea if this fake  number exists and if someone is getting txts saying my prescription is approved.But it increasingly seems that you can't draw breath without submitting a mobile phone number.

The issue is when criminals spoof the real number of a bank, government department, etc. The best advice is don't give out any information of a personal or sensitive nature to anyone calling you, insist on a reference number and say you'll call back after checking the phone number on some documentation from the organisation - or their website, although be careful because sometimes sophisticated frauds involve climbed websites. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-56934517

But you will still get calls from abroad spoofing UK numbers. Yes, agreed, if you don't recognise the number let it go to voicemail; if it's urgent they'll leave a message.

Just register with the telephone preference service. You get no more unrequested calls from the UK. Calls from abroad are not covered obviously but why would they be contacting you in any case.I am the last person in the world without a mobile,but even I know if you don't recognise the number then block it. Protect your privacy, it's not difficult.

HalloRe the scams. As I suggested a while ago, leave your landline or mobile 'phone on answerphone, and if it is a scam or whatever, the caller will hang up. If it is a friend or relative, listen to the message and pick up the 'phone!

It is endless!!!There are so many these days that I do not believe a single email or phone call.  This loss of trust is horrible!
