Paul and Duncan, I do have a mobile which I only use when I am meeting friends. I resent the increasing tyranny of the mobile phone. There's so many things for which a mobile number is demanded. I wanted to reorder a prescription from my GP surgery. Nowadays I have to do this via Patient Access (don't get me going on that). Last time it demanded a mobile number and wouldn't progress until I'd submitted one. As I don't keep the thing perpetually charged, and I'm not looking at it every 10 seconds, I didn't want to tie myself to it, so I made up a number. 12334 etc. No idea if this fake number exists and if someone is getting txts saying my prescription is approved. But it increasingly seems that you can't draw breath without submitting a mobile phone number.
