Hello Michael,I agree, the key issue on all this BBC saga is effective governance with honesty and integrity. The latter have been mislaid along the way, sadly, not just in the BBC but the government in general too.I defend the BBC with the same strength of conviction as I defend the NHS. I really dislike the way in which the government is trying to influence all the venerable British institutions and, dare I say, not with much honesty nor integrity. The Bashir issue is unacceptable but the timing of all this erupting is questionable to say the least. Also, it seems to me that most people have forgotten that in the 80s and 90s that was a common behaviour by some journalists and politicians. Let us not omit the paparazzi - horrific! I was watching Andrew Marr this morning and listening to Esther Rantzen was a breath of fresh air. So much common sense! As soon as Priti Patel came on I went off to do important things at home.As for the TV license, I really do believe it gives enormous value for money. The quality of the programmes in general is excellent, if not superb, as are the news (programmes and channel). The principle is not incorrect. Perhaps it needs reviewing, but certainly not for the benefit of political parties.
