Cyclists Break Far Fewer Road Rules Than Motorists, Finds New Video Study

"A new study [it's actually a couple of years old]  from the Danish Road Directorate shows that less than 5% of cyclists break traffic laws while riding yet 66% of motorists do so when driving. Just to be pedantic may I point out that you can’t get a Danish pastry in Denmark. Over there they’re Viennese pastries.

A bacon sandwich, a Danish pastry (but why only one?) and a Carlsberg, now that does sound good, I'll go for that.But I wouldn't want to add herrings, even though they're a Scandinavian specialty: we once went to restaurant in Copenhagen where they served 22 different kinds of herring.

Barbara,I think the opposite is true. Countries with good regulation tend to have more cyclists.But there would be a period of adjustment :)

If they brought those rules in here they would all be pooping themselves. You wouldn't see a bike in sight.

A quick search and it appears like other countries they are have a fair bit of regulation. Perhaps we could follow the Danish model?You receive a fine of 700 Dkk for:cycling without proper lights during dark hourscycling with faulty breaksride your bike on the pedestrian side or places marked as footpathsride your bike on a  bicycle lane in the opposite direction than the one indicated by signscycling without your hands on the handlebarsyou don’t signal when stopping or changing directionyou don’t respect signs and markingscycle while holding onto another vehicletwo people are riding on the same (non-tandem) bike – *Each person receives a fine You receive a fine of 1000 Dkk for:riding your bike over a red lightriding your bike in the opposite direction of the car trafficusing your mobile phone (handheld) while cycling

In fact a Danish survey found that a cyclist eating a bacon sarnie followed by a pastry whilst carrying a can of carlsberg is probably the best cyclist in thd world.
