Radovan Karadzic: Ex-Bosnian Serb leader to be sent to UK prison

Thank you Katrina and Caroline.The article yesterday explained a little bit but no why.The article this morning gives details of the United Nations Agreement with several countries in respect of:- the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ITCY); - International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ITCR); and - the "Mechanism" (as of 1 September 2016, the Host State Agreement between the Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals and the Kingdom of the Netherlands applies mutatis mutandis to the ICTY).Now I understand the reason why of Karadzic being in prison in the UK.  I thought our prisons were full to the brim and, in Karadzic's case, he will need special protection.

On BBC News this morning. It seems that Radovan Karadzic is fearful that Muslim prisoners in British Prisons will attack him. Apparently this has happened before when he was in Wakefield Prison for a short time.

More coverage of it today on the BBC website. Apparently we're on a UN list of countries willing to hold such people in prison and Dominic Raab as a young lawyer was involved in the original criminal proceedings.

Sorry Yvonne. That was a bit of a glass in the hand reply! I am shocked too and would rather he wasn't here. Perhaps it's a case of the UK trying to hold on to its former position as a fairly major influence in world affairs?
