Yes, it's appalling the way she's being held as a hostage but I feel our own government has exacerbated the situation. The latest statements do seem to indicate that the reason she's being held is because of Britain's unpaid debt. There doesn't seem to be any excuse for Britain not paying that before sanctions were imposed and we know Johnson's big mouth when he was Foreign Secretary gave the Iranians more ammunition in their case to hold her. The other problem seems to be opposing views betwen the hardline religious judiciary and politicians who seem more liberal (or at least pragmatic) diplomatically. Of course we don't know what discussions have been going on in the background, possibly with third party intermediaries, so perhaps it will get sorted soon provided discussions are with the correct Iranian faction; anyway, let's hope so.
