Bay Suspension.

Matthew on the front page of the Forum was caught out in Chelverton Road, because he was self isolating and hadn't seen the yellow notice on the lamp post. It is impossible to always park directly outside your property, it might be halfway down the road. Also the yellow signs are not always outside the house the work will be carried out in, it's the nearest Lamp post. So as Matthew was not meant to go out because he might spread the virus. Who is right and who is wrong?

Andy, I agree, looks very harsh to me. If it had been me I’d be furious. If the car owner gets a local councillor onside they might get a good resolution.

I agree Andy, problem is when you see loads of tickets, neighbours think it could have been abandoned. I only know a couple of neighbours cars. I don't take that much notice.

I agree the Council is being rather harsh and should relent, but dissapointing that none of his  neighbours thought to knock and advise once the tickets started accumulating.

Ivonne, Thomas and Michael, I agree. We live in the same road and my other half has been rung by the council or they have knocked on the door. Yes we do have to have Parking Permits so they would have had his phone No, or address. I can also understand it's not very fair if you have gone on holiday and all of a sudden a yellow sign has gone up. They then have a transporter and move your vehicle.. Which must be a shock if you come back from holiday and see your car gone.

I'm sure when I owned a car I've been contacted by Wandsworth when it was parked in a suspended bay. However, I think (a) the bay was closed at fairly short notice and (b) I think it was in the days when I drove to work as I think I was about to move my car anyway - so it might have been around twenty years ago! Perhaps the service was better then? Wandsworth seem to be suggesting he should have broken the law regarding not leaving one's house during self isolation?

Well, if anything it's the council's fault for not checking up. Presumably someone with that many tickets, in this situation, is obviously not checking their vehicle for a reason.Furthermore, when I apply for a Parking Permit, I provide contact details and the address the vehicle is registered to. Why didn't the council send an information request to the DVLA and confirm the driver's address and send someone to knock on their door, contact them on the phone or send an email to get their attention. Sure, this could have been solved by the driver walking out and checking on his vehicle, but if you're self-isolating, working from home and presumably have enough food to sustain oneself, why would you check outside, especially if it's not in sight from any window.

Personally, I think WBC is being unduly intransigent.The car must been parked there when the signs went up and obviously when the suspension came into effect.I am sure you need resident parking permits on Chelverton Road, therefore the Council could easily identify the car and the property it is registered to.If somebody is self-isolating, but the very essence of the term, people do not go out of their houses.In this instance, COVID takes precedence.
