Richmond Park - All dogs to be on leads at all times from 4 May - 2 August. Baby deer being born

Applies to Bushy Park too. All dogs on leads at all times until 2 August.

Mammals (Mammils?) on bikes don't litter the park with uncollected faeces, unlike most of the dogs, whether on leads or not.But well done for yet another a propos of nothing perjorative comment against cyclists. Why are golfers such un-self-aware prats. There. That's how it's done.

A couple of days before the deadline  most dogs were on leads.Putting aside the totally irresponsible, I think that some people are aware of the herds but do not realise there could be solitary deer almost anywhere in the park. Of course that makes tge Park such a great place to visit.Best to stay away from isabella plantation. It's far too beautiful now its in bloom. The paths are very accessible and the blue badge car park is very close. I have to check if Pembroke Lodge is open. Isabella plantation and tea at the lodge.

I do find that untrained humans are the problem with Deer. Responsible dog owners steer clear of the Deer for very good reasons, they love their pets more than some parents love their kids. I've seen kids no older than 6 getting 1ft away from the deer pack. Yet when I send my dog after the stick into the river, I'm the one with Plod all over my arse because the deer are 100 meters away and the Dog is very hot on the Summer's day. You can point them at the direction of the idiots and they drive off in the opposite direction. Throughout any conversation, my dog is sat by my feet or as they're talking to me, I'm keeping an eye on her. -

The other week a cyclist with a dog (off lead) had to retrieve it as it started running for a deer. He then put it on a lead and cycled off - I guess to the next accident waiting to happen!

Same here but unlikely to happen. We always walked our dog on the lead in Richmond Park especially after I made a mistake at the Windmill and he tried to harass a horse in its enclosure.

Untrained dogs off their leads is becoming an ever bigger problem.  Not just because they bother the wildlife (as in the case of the deer in Richmond Park) but also chasing the swans, geese and other birds along the river. The sad demise of Freddie the seal is just one more case of an unthinking or indifferent owner letting a dog run loose.I have complained before about dogs off their lead dumping in public parks - and it still goes on even in Leaders Garden which is often full of children.  Have they no shame, these thoughtless dog owners?Keeping dogs on leads should be more widely required - and the laws enforced.

"When will they just close the park full stop?"Eh? What do you mean? There's a whole world of difference between trying to get dog owners to behave responsibly,  and shutting the park completely.
