SKY News The Duke of Edinburgh - Prince Philip - has died, Buckingham Palace has said.A statement from Buckingham Palace said: "It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. I agree Caroline, it was very moving ceremony.  I also agree that seeing the glorious St Georges Chapel so empty was very sad too.The most difficult bit for me was watching the Queen sitting on her own and with her head bowed.

I had not intended to watch the whole funeral this afternoon, but somehow I did and found it very moving and at the same time very sad, with the vast empty spaces of St Georges Chapel and the Queen sitting there all on her own.

Hello Richard,I agree that, with 100,000 signatures to an e-petition on the Government's website, the petition is possibly discussed in Parliament, more than likely in the relevant Committee.I also remember very clearly an e-petition against the withdrawal from the EU on the designed date received over 7,000,000 million signatures and it was disregarded.  I remember comments on this forum laughing at it as over 17,000,000 had voted to Leave. In percentage terms, the petition just got the support of some 5% compared to the total votes to Leave or 15% of the electoral turnout to the referendum of 2016.In percentage terms, the number of complaints received by the BBC amounts to 0.2% vs the population of the UK.

The schedules returned to normal on Saturday though they did squeeze in a few tribute programmes.And Line of Duty went out as per schedule. There would have been real OCG-type trouble if they had messed with that!

It's a bit misleading to compare the number of complaints with the total audience, the real comparison is with previous levels of complaints. But it's also significant that BBC2 and ITV lost around 2/3 of their audiences that night. It also puts rather a hole in the case for the fawning coverage in the papers, like the Sun's slavering front page:

There was no need for bbc1 and 2 ( and 4) to show identical footage all day long. It was repetitive and duplicated when using 1 of the channels would have sufficed.

That has actually now been rescheduled.  However the weekly final of House of Games , hasn't, as far as I know  Quite funny actually  In Pointless, on BBC 1 , finishing at 6, Richard Osman has a beard.  In House of Games, BBC2 starting at 6 he is clean shaven.

I know TV went on rather a long time over the passing of Prince Philip. But all the years they gave too us when they might not have felt like getting out of bed even. Shows us their dedication. One day of watching wasn't that bad and I found it really interesting. My dad was in the WW2 in the Navy and he would be 119 this year if he was still with us. There were other Channels to watch.

Yes, I read this and, while I agree that having coverage of the D of E's death on both BBC1 and BBC2 simultaneously was pushing it a bit, we are all very lucky to have more that two (or three if you consider ITV too) TV channels to watch, even on Freeview. Many of us have the facility of catching up on programmes we have missed.With apologies to the keen followers, but not being able to watch Eastenders or the final of Masterchef is really not the end of the world.  Annoying, perhaps, but not much more than that.  I also think that the number of complaints is big, it is not that enormous compared to viewing ratings amounting to millions on certain programmes.It is also true to say, particularly among cynics which are a lot more than 110,000 in the UK, that such wide coverage in the media of one subject also means that other very important issues are not being broadcast or published.

@CarolineMy post was nothing to do with David's tedious dig at Farage and the DM.  Nor was it anything to do with Matt's puerile attempt at humour about PP's death.  My objection was about both of them hijacking a thread about the passing of someone of immense importance for their own self indulgent agendas. David does it all the time, he MUST post something/anything in any thread in order to take it off topic. 🙄

Of course they did. While I did not complain I think 9 hours of coverage on his death across both BBC 1 and 2 is ridiculous. Happy to choose 1 channel but why 2?

Interesting that the BBC has received a record number of complaints over its excessive coverage of the D of E's death, and viewers left both the BBC and ITV on Friday night "in droves."

Not a good idea to make political capital using Prince Philip's death. Leave that to the Daily Mail and to Nigel Farage - they have both used his death to launch into attacks on Harry and Meghan. They couldn't even restrain themselves for one day.

As an xPutney lad, I meet the Duke underground at Mount Isa mines, during the Queens and Dukes visit to Australia. We had to install benches around our working area (in case the Duke needed to sit down, also spray the work area with whitwash. The Duke arrived at the work face. He started to talk with me, he must of picked up my accent, then he said to me "you are a long way from home, I replied "SO are you Sir" - he smilled at me and walked on.(I felt rather homsick for a moment)

Matt, I don't really think Prince Phillip's death is necessary to make a joke. I'm was upset when I heard, I'm the same age as Princess Ann, so from when I was young they represented Country. He helped a lot of young people.
