Brexit.

I was just wondering how you lot are getting on with brexit. The EU has absolutely humiliated itself over the vaccine & blaming us. It goes on & on.It never stops & all the while its people continue to die. And they continue to blame some outside force for their troubles. It's all our fault that we left & we need to be punished .You lot sit there & say nothing. Talk about losers.

Who would believe these polls! According to Kantar’s poll of 2 April, 48percent want to stay out, and 38% rejoin.  Support for staying out of the EU is increasing.
I don’t believe any of them.  Only one poll counts and that the Referendum.

Well done Hungary.not sure how that's a positive for the poor performance of the EU.But whilst wearing Rose tinted spectacles looking across the channel you will see no wrong.I like a bet and would suggest if there were a peoples vote on rejoining the EU next week rejoin would lose by a considerably larger majority than last time.On the basis ' if they can cock up something as important as the vaccine programme what else will they fail at under pressure? Will their EU army need 27 votes before responding to attack? Sorry guys too late it's all over. But at least Hungary didnt wait and did a deal with Russia.

Yes Andy,The procurement of vaccines was, surprisingly, excellent perhaps as a result of "capitalism and greed" mentioned by BoJo.That did enable the NHS to roll it out so successfully, and the NHS did it and not the government.  As for the EU, they are in a mess with regard to the production and rollout of vaccines.  But please bear in mind that Hungary, very early on, took its own path and bought the Sputnik V directly from Russia.  Every Member State could, and can, go its own way.  Perhaps it was easier to let the Commission do the ground work for them?But, and there is always a but, the EU has so many positives that, however bad they are dealing with the production and rollout of vaccines, this does not negate their positives.As you say, give credit where credit is due.

I think people are getting their vaccines mixed up.Paul is obviously referring to the magic word "vaccine" not the actual vaccine that gets injected.The magic word "vaccine" is connected but not the same as other magical words such as "money tree".To invoke the magical properties of the magical word "vaccine", you have to say it multiple times in a sentence and apply it evry day to all non-medical subjects such as Brexit, exports and even government mismanagement!If the word isn't applied this way the magic will wares off to reveal the emperor is completely naked of any policies!

Can't be bothered with all this brexit ( he says she says nonsense)  again but if the Govt is responsible for all that went wrong in Covid surely give them credit for the foresight of going alone in ordering vaccines ahead of Europe and for setting up the infrastructure to enable the NHS to give the jabs at pace. They could have joined the laborious and late EU jab ordering but decided not to and are reaping the rewards for that decision.whether or not you believe that is as a result of brexit it certainly does not look good that an unwieldy federal block took so long to get their act together.Not exactly a  endorsement of cooperative purchasing in an emergency

I was too tired to work out this confused posting when it first appeared last night. My analysis was the same as Freddie's, perhaps too much of the Scottish amber nectar, too much of the grape from Chile or California (obviously not France or Italy), or perhaps a gallon of Young's most special? Obviously vaccination issues not a Brexit concern - each individual country in thge European continent defines and executes its own programme with those in the EU determining whether to purchase themselves or via the point EU scheme. Given that viruses aren't aware of geographical boundaries then none of us are safe till we all are, so we should be concerned and help European countries if necessary.Thanks for Paul's concern but as a remainer, personally, Brexit  hasn't affected me too much yet but then Covid stops any travel to see friends and family in the EU so extra bureaucracy isn't an issue yet. Interestingly, it seems to be those who reportedly supported Brexit: the DUP, many farmers and fishermen, some expats in Spain and small business people ... who seem most upset by it's outcome! Surely, Johnson didn't mislead them about the benefits and what a great deal he and Frost had negotiated?Looking at the number of businesses who've had to set up subsidiaries in the EU to continue exporting goods and services to European customers it looks great for EU job not sure about the UK though?

By some estimates the UK economy has lost more value since Brexit than the cumulative total of 46 years of contributions. The annual value of open access to the EU single market far exceeded the cost of our annual budget contributions. Over the coming decades - unless we rejoin the single market or even just the customs union - our economy is likely to underperform due to loss of access to the EU which no amount of additional business with Japan, Australia or even the US will compensate for. Still, at least we’re keeping a few more pesky foreigners out of the UK. Or are we?  Huge gaps in NHS staffing not to mention a wide range of highly qualified job vacancies need to be filled. If not Europeans then others from further afield will fill them, always assuming they can get past our ever more draconian immigration rules.

My neice recently sent me a small box of chocolates from Brussels. Several days later I received a two page letter detailing the customs regulations involved in sending the parcel. What a bureaucratic waste of time and paper! Presumably going on all the time now on a much larger scale.

The vaccines are irrelevant to Brexit certainly.  The success in the roll out of the vaccines is thanks to our superb NHS and not the government.

Brexit is bringing only cost, loss of business and loss of opportunity.  We are a European nation that has erected unnecessary barriers between ourselves and our neighbours and natural allies. You won, enjoy it. Tell us if you see a benefit and don’t point to vaccines and the Covid response. They are irrelevant to Brexit.
