Wandsworth Foodbank

Last night the Putney Society had its AGM and our guest speaker was Sarah Chapman from Wandsworth Foodbank who told us more about their work.  They run five food banks in the borough including one on the Ashburton estate and another planned for Roehampton.  The Society has been supporting their work.They are part of the Trussell Trust network and provide emergency food & support to people facing severe hardship across the Borough, plus they offer expert advice.  They are doing a fantastic job helping people who are suffering financially thanks to Covid and the vagaries of the benefit system - we cannot recommend their work too highly.Key stats: 10,700 emergency food supplies given to people since April 2020, 2300+ households supported during the pandemic and 40% ofemergency food supplies are for children.For more info please go to https://wandsworth.foodbank.org.uk/about/

On the corner of Werter Rd, today a lovely lady sitting with her elderly dog, not asking for money, but I was glad to give as the other week when she was sitting there she told me her dog was old and the Council won't house her as she has a dog. The dog is lovely, let me stoke her. Also she said she has to sleep with her dog in car parks etc. The lady speaks nicely, doesn't seem like a drinker, seems such a shame.

Yes, Jonathan, that was an informative session yesterday evening. The pandemic is highlighting a number of problems in our society that are often unseen by or do not affect the majority if us.
