Yes Freddie I read it. Calling Something temporary and it being temporary are two different things. Hogarth Flyover is a good example.

I can only agree Ed. By the time money is paid out for a temporary (and ugly?) bridge it could have been kept for a permanent one instead of having the upheaval of replacing the existing  bridge and the  temporary one.

Exactly Ivonne. If there are alternatives (eg non toll bridges) then people will use them. So either not have a toll or pay for the use (and future repairs) of all bridges.

"The temporary double-decker bridge."I wonder how temporary it will be and what the cost would have been to remove the old bridge for renovation and relocation? Was it even considered? Or are they heading that way.Have they published all the various engineering reports?IMO either the double-decker bridge will be permanent and bridge voyeurs will have to explain how this solution does not ruin the visual appearance, or it will be temporary and we will be looking at another closure in another couple of years and the whole process will start again!

Yes, but if people do not wish to pay the toll for Hammersmith Bridge, they will come to Putney (or Chiswick).Also, could it reduce cars coming down PH and PHS if the toll on PB is implemented too?I thought people wanted to reduce pollution on the High Street.

The congestion charge zone is more likely to be extended? Perhaps it will be made the same as ULEZ, the camera infrastructure will be in place?

I highly doubt it. Most people who use it woud still have to use it and just be stung, along with the ULEZ charge, that would go down like lead ballon. Anyway, the toll on Hammersmith Bridge is to find the repairs, wiich has some justification.

So all London bridges would become toll bridges on that basis. Or is it just to protect Putney ?

To have a fund for future repairs and to "discourage" people using Putney Bridge, perhaps?  The idea being that it would reduce the pollution on PHS.

I read somewhere that they plan to charge £3 to cross it to cover costs. Maybe we should do the same for Putney Bridge?
