Eric the robot. A stand in for the Duke of York?  Perhaps the current DoY should use one for his TV interviews?  Humanoid, Robot, Eric; UK, 1928 (this replica 2016) - London Science Museum exhibition: Robots, 2017 Eric was the first modern British robot. He was built to open the annual Society of Model Engineers exhibition in London, standing in for the Duke of York. He used 13 electric motors and a closely guarded control system to stand, bow, give a four minute speech and answer up to 60 questions. I find it interesting that one can go to an exhibition like that and most of the things one's aware or heard of - even if only vaguely -but then there's something like that that's quite striking and I've never heard of it before.
