Laptops for deprived children

Showing my ignorance again.  I had thought, that the laptops that were given to children ( organised by the BBC) were for them, but apparently when school reopens they are to be returned to the school Can someone tell me why?  As I understood it they were publicly donated so why does the school have a claim on them.?

BarbaraI am not sure which scheme you are referring to? If you mean the devices that are given by the government it sort of makes sense that they are returned to the schools maybeBut if you are talking about the schemes that the BBC promoted where people donated devices, which were then upgraded and given to school children, i can reassure you that the scheme we are running in the borough (Keep Kids Connected / Dons Local Action) are giving these devices to the children to keep. It is theirs forever and does not need to go back to the school, and the schools are made aware of this.
