The virus appears to be highly transmissible with an exponentially increasing rate of infections if not controlled - hence the current and previous lockdowns. Initial research seems to indicate that immunity following infection only lasts a matter of months so without assisted immunity (that is, vaccination) then reinfection in highly likely for a significant part of the population. A death rate of 0.3% doesn't sound high but on a large candidate population that can be reinfected it can quickly become a large number - and that's before looking at the higher death rates for increasing age and health vulnerabilities. We are developing better treatments but at present without measures to reduce infections that has the effect of blocking more hospital and ICU beds (because people live rather than die quickly!) thus reducing the capability to deal with other serious ailments: heart attacks, strokes, cancers, etc. It's true one can't be unvaccinated but at present there's no evidence of any adverse affects whereas Covid definitely kills a number of cases - and one can't be "unskilled"!I would guess the fewer people vaccinated the longer lockdowns, social distancing and mask wearing will last. It also looks like vaccination passports could well be required for foreign travel (I heard Greece is considering them), and some employers may also require vaccination.Still, it's a free country, so people are free to make their own decision. I've decided vaccination is a lower risk than Covid.
