Lidl putney

hi there lidl putney due to open 25th feb,good news for local shopping

In total agreement with the last 2 posts and have always had immense pleasure from purchases at The Works  Oddly enough have never been in Lidl.  When I was somewhat younger there used to be a supermarket called Netto  Had a Scottie for the emblem  Can't really remember what happened to them.  Does anyone else remember?

I agree. In Germany Lidl is not considered at all downmarket. Rather too much unpleasant snobbery with respect to Lidl customers.

Had a conversation with a forum participant some time ago when The Works moved into the Mall.  He considered The Works lowered the tone of the area.  Interesting to know his reaction to Lidl

Dry/ambient goods are up and visible on the shelves now. I would expect the fresh to go in in the day before opening. The bit that I think will hit Waitrose (and Gails) the hardest is that in-store bakery section.

Bumped into someone I know on PHS yesterday and she and a neighbour were checking out when the new store opens.  I think there is a fair bit of excitement in SW15 about this.

Totally agree. Unfortunately somebody with a genuine exemption but not wearing a mask can be a danger to others. Of course people with genuine underlying health conditions which exempt them from  wearing a mask should have priority re food deliveries.

Well you all know it all, what about the man with his medical exempt card hanging round his neck waiting in the Surgery, he had COPD. He wanted to talk to somebody, I obviously have one of those faces that people want to  talk to. He hadn't been out since Christmas was he not meant to go to the Surgery. Come on all you opinionated  Forum members. What is your view.

There is far too much of an excuse to falsely claim exemption.  There are ways to have your shopping delivered and minimising unmasked mixing in restricted space. Everybody should be thinking about their responsibilities to others as well to themselves.

So let's be clear. You think people who are legally allowed to not wear a mask should NOT be allowed in shops? Any views on old people getting vaccines we should know about?

I agree that mask wearing should be compulsory in shops so people who are exempt should not be allowed in shops because they could be a danger to others. However to ban them from going outside to exercise is too harsh. My criticism is around your implication that Lidl customers would be less likely to behave responsibly than other customers. I have stopped shopping in M and S in Barnes because so many customers were not wearing masks and refused to walk one way. Of course things might well have improved - lets hope so.

“you can imagine what it will be like at Lidle ! ” - let’s settle for thinly veiled  snobbery. As for telling people exempt from wearing a mask they shouldn’t go out, that’s rather harsh. Are you Katie Hopkins under that pseudonym by any chance?

It is not snobbery it is a question of safety at these difficult times.  For your information when I visited Lidl in November people were not wearing masks maybe now people are more careful and doing so.Also if you are exempt from wearing a mask you shouldn’t be out .

Why would lidl be different? I go to the Wimbledon one and all wear masks. I won't be in the putney one for a couple of weeks till things settle....unless it's Spanish week.....or Italian week...or French.....

Indeed it is good news but I won’t be going as I am sure half of Putney will be.  If local people are ignoring wearing masks and not keeping their distance  in the other supermarkets you can imagine what it will be like at Lidle !
