Parcel Delivery

I was speaking to a Delivery driver delivering parcels today. His van was a 2019 non electric, owned by the company he works for. So if he has a new van that means who will get their parcels in Oct 2021. If the ULEZ is coming to Putney all charges will go up for your parcel delivery for what that company is expected to pay to come into Putney. All Builders and every other delivery will put their prices up, if we are brought into that zone. Some on here may think their getting their own way. But what are you going to do when you need a builder urgent and no charging points, or the builders don't want to come to you and pay the ULEZ. A lot on here are full of themselves regarding this, but wait till you have water p===ing out everywhere, the builder tells you no thanks get somebody else.

Diesels are NOT excluded. Google is your friend:Only Euro 6-compliant diesel cars are exempt from ULEZ charges.Almost every diesel car registered since September 2015 meets the standard.Some earlier models do too. Euro 6-compliant cars date back as far as 2012.

Im not sure how congestion in London varies from other cities in the UK. In the post I made about the Oxford ZEZ I think I noted I could see these schemes becoming common in the UK's cities. Perhaps the pollution isn't bad enough in towns and villages to justify the infrastructure costs. Of course, one could add tax to diesel or petrol but I think that idea has already slipped from favour? If the funds are used to subsidise public transport I'm OK with the CC, ULEZ, etc (and I'd include cheap or free taxis for people with mobility problems in that, and perhaps even funds for assists purchasing of EVs with trade in of non compliant vehicles) but I agree better transparency of how money is allocated would be good. I don't claim to have a solution but congestion, poor air quality, climate change need to be addressed.The boundary seems to be pragmatic or arbitrary based on road configuration and use rather than pollution levels, but isn't that the case for the current CC and ULEZ?

Michael wouldn't the health situation be the same for many of our cities?If so the tax or charge should be applied nationally.Let's not forget that the primary purpose of this scheme is to raise money for TFL.And does the scheme boundary make any environmental or health sense?I'm not sure if there is enough transparency to trace the funds once they are raised. The Dutch pm reportedly arrived to his Parliament on bicycle about time local and central government did the same or use public transport!

Wouldn't most delivery businesses lease their vehicles, and given they'd be relatively high mileage they probably get renewed after two, perhaps three, years? Not sure what effect ULEZ has on resale value for the used vehicles, which is one of the factors the leasing companies use to determine their charges. One has to have sympathy for sole traders and private individuals who were mislead about diesel vehicles but shouldn't people's health come first?

More fool them theh have had plenty of notice of ULEZ.I do feel sorry for those who were encouraged to switch to diesel some years back and feel there should be some sort of compensation scheme for them.

Theres plenty of electric and even diesels that fit the bill. Perhaps your delivery driver didnt even know if his was compliant.

ULEZ came in the central zone in 2019 so his employer presumably factored that in when choosing the van.

Barbara as I said my vehicles are 2002 ue 19 years old and are acceptable under ULEZ. It's not a blanket older than 15 years as some cars before that time are ok.There is a simple check on the TFL site just put in your reg no.

Also my 2002 Mondeo and my wifes 2002 Golf both qualify as  zero charge vehicles as they are petrol level 4 . So may not be as drastic as some think.

I don't get it 1) is it petrol ? If so it's ok. Or 2) if its diesel poor purchase by company whk new ULEZ was coming before 2019.Also Matt's right delivery firns will adapt.Personally not a fan of ULEZ extension but it shouldn't affect well run businesses and Amazon advertise their electric fleet.

Yes I imagine every house already inside the ULEZ constantly has water pouring out of their house as they havent been able to get a plumber since April 2019?Presumably Amazon havent delivered to central London since then either?
