Of course, an electrically-powered hire bike could pursue any malefactor hurling imprecations. Or, I guess, it could park itself in the right place.

They also have GPS - so it wouldn't be too difficult to give a credit if dropped at an approved location.

It's a good idea, and these segregated parking areas already exist: I've seen at least one, somewhere in Fulham as I recall.  But clearly more are needed, though I'm not sure how you make people use them instead of just dumping the bike anywhere.

Yes Andy dockless so no Docking infrastructure needed. A tin or white paint!Just very local pools where the bikes can be parked and picked up.The docking solution is not scalable, cost effective or desirable. OK for leisure but not for cycling to home!

The ideal situation would be to agree with the local authorities where they could be parked.In residential areas perhaps every few hundred yards a bike bay half the size of a car bay.The hire companies could offer incentives users to park in them.

They leave them anywhere, a lot around Mortlake and Chiswick.
