Ms HammondI would like to make some comments about Trump which will probably not be popular with you.The first is that he is obviously mad; mentally disordered; suffering from a psychiatric malady; not right in the head; just not all there.Call his medical disposition what you want but please call it out.Why do people like you and more to the point 99.9% of political commentators, not tell their readers or listeners of this fact. It's key to his behaviour as every sensible person can see.Instead all you and they do is try to rationalise or explain or even forgive his behaviour. Can't be done. This man is a nutter. But as you say he gained almost half of the votes of Americans who voted. What does this say about their perception or intelligence ?It is easy to throw the word fascist around when commenting on him and his supporters. But let's go back to Germany between the wars.In brief, Hitler formed a new political party of those feeling aggrieved over WW1 defeat and reparations, and the treatment they received from the established political parties. Many of these supporters were ex-military and prone to violence and Hitler urged them to take on their Communist rivals in street battles.Eventually Hitler's Party gained sufficient legitimate electoral support that he was appointed Chancellor by President Hindenburg. With this power he started his attack on the Constitution and its niceties, supported by a feeble, self-serving political and economic elite who thought they could tame him or would benefit from his actions. The rest we know.I am not trying to show my superior knowledge in these matters as its all from Wikipedia !But I am trying to point out some similarities with Trump, his actions, the support he gets from a large group of pretty scary people and the acquiescence, not always reluctant, from the politically powerful who seek to benefit from what might happen.Trump may go, but Trumpists and Trumpism will stay.So don't think something dire could not happen in the land of the free.
