Vaccine arrangements

It seems that the centre Wandsworth set up has not been approved so that is why there is a delay until 4 January. My husband is 94, I’m 86. We don’t mind about Christmas but do feel disappointed about this delay.  Friends in Hammersmith have already been vaccinated. But we are warm and well and have food unlike far too many others so we shouldn’t be complaining about anything.

Elizabeth, if the local authorities have not prepared for these obvious questions then they really need to replaced.It makes no economic sense to shut down the country, buy expensive vaccines and not do the preparation for how to deliver them.Perhaps one of the government ministers' mates has a taxi company?

Ok, Ed, I missed that subtlety. Possibly as I doubt whether there will be the resources or organisation to arrange the transport as well as the vaccinations. It will probably come down to relying on friends or family if people can't get there themselves, unless they already have arrangements for assistance with hospital appointments.

Michael I wasn't making the assumption that they would drive. I said that they would arrive by car!If they haven't got means to arrive by car then I would expect the authorities to arrange individual car transport. Given the current levels of infection public transport is clearly a no go.It makes no sense closing the economy and cancelling Christmas if we can't make sure that those who are most vulnerable get the vaccine quickly and safely.

Ed. I'm not sure it's a good to make the assumption that people in vulnerable can or do drive, and, if they do, own cars? For instance, we are talking initially about people in their 80s, 90s and others with illnesses such as diabetes who may have sight problems?

Caroline, I dont see that as an issue. Close Oxford Road access only. Make it one way north to south. Recipients can park up until they have the all clear.We have closed down the economy, cancelled Christmas. Is Wandsworth now so bad it can't arrange for those that most need it to get the vaccination?

If the Vaccination Centre for the Putney area is to be the Scout Hut in Oxford Road parking will be a problem.

Ed I think there is an issue of wait time after the vaccine. Similar to the flu vaccine you have to sit and wait for a period after the injection to ensure no adverse reaction.A drive through would actually be slower than a walk in.

A friend of mine who lives in Balham has had her first jab at a local GP practice - not her own.

Same in Kingston my friends mum (92) has been told letters will be coming out on 4th January. I expect they are waiting for the oxford vaccine . They said today 350,000 had 1st jab so far means only another 50 000 of the Pfizer one left ( need the other 400,000) for 2nd jab.
