Heathrow Appeal Overturned By Supreme Court

The Supreme Court has just approved the Heathrow expansions.

We should lobby for the currently surplus second runway to be dug up and reforested to offset the pollution from the remaining runway ;-)

Yes, I think (hope!) the whole thing has been overtaken by events,. I can't see it going ahead now, so the Supreme Court decision is a lot less worrying than it would have been if it had come a year ago.

Isn't there are a predicted a drop in air travel generally, due to many factors including COVID?

Pretty sure i saw somewhere that Heathrow had already said that covid would prob delay the start of construction by 5 years. Frankly I just can't see it going ahead.

Not in any way taking a particular stance on whether the new runway is good or bad but as far as more planes over Putney are concerned, surely they won’t increase as the runway alignment is over Hammersmith and Chiswick. Polution increases are a different matter.

Many a true word spoken in jest, Jonathan. I remember, years ago, when Heathrow was refusing to accept that the decibel level from planes was too high in Putney they didn't hold "consultation" exhibitions here so a friend and I went to one at the Wetlands Centre. We looked at each other and said, "perhaps we'll be dead". She died two years ago in Trinity Hospice and I still miss her.

If work started tomorrow it would apparently take until 2030 before it opens.  You can add several years to that I would imagine.  A few of us may not be around to "enjoy" the extra aircraft!

With the state of air travel very much changed since the Pandemic and Brexit No Deal/Bad Deal on the way surely it's doubtful whether Heathrow will have the traffic it hoped for when the Third Runway was first mooted.

And no doubt they'll come to the taxpayer to foot the bill. I can't see the foreign wealth funds who extract mega dividends paying up.So looking forward to planes over my house every 90 seconds with no respite - cunningly hidden in Davies' flawed report.Who cares about the environment.
