Yes, the blue passports which someone was complaining about recently that were actually black...  No difference there then.People have also always moved from place to place and look a little harder into family trees and you'll find that families just aren't made up quite the way you imagined.

"..real cost to the economy of throwing miners out of work"Probably some seeds of Brexit can be traced back to that policy or rather a lack of plan for those areas.It should be noted that subsequent governments of all colours have chosen to import labour rather than to train or retrain. You have only to look at nursing as an example but it's the same for many sectors.I find it particularly distressing how the rights of these workers have been mainly ignored by both parties of all colors during the Brexit process.

Many years ago when I worked at the Prices and Incomes Board, we carried out a major study of the electricity generation system, which at that time relied almost entirely on burning coal. A big part of the study involved using opportunity costs for coal miners' labour (using calculations of the real cost to the economy of throwing miners out of work in payments of unemployment benefit, etc). Sadly, nothing was ever done to implement it.

Sean that is what we did when we closed the mines.Of course individuals didn't get millions - they were put on the scrap heap and forgotten about.It should be about creating a sustainable fishing policy for coastal generations.

Craig, me too (though I have just been posting yet again on the subject!).  I just find I am getting more and more angry and frustrated at how badly this is affecting the UK and how much the country is losing from what has gone on here since the referendum.  There is no upside.  Discuss, or not.

And no doubt in the headlines too.  I haven’t heard much about unicorns recently but I am looking forward to some, indeed any, good news despite this downward lurch in our international standing and economic strength.

I'm sure I heard of some fish having miniature GPS transmitters fitted for some scientific exercise ... or perhaps, it was birds? Hmm, that's a pleasant surprise...Meanwhile, Tobias Ellwood, the MP who chairs the defence select committee, has said that the government’s threat to deploy gunboats was “irresponsible ... global threats increasing, Navy overstretched. Here we are squaring up to a NATO ally as beneath the same sea increased Russian sub/drone activity goes unchecked.”So one Tory at least has managed to keep his head in all this ludicrous jingoism, which hardly seems likely to win over many Europeans in the negotiations.
