There's another blatant lie of Johnson's on his laughable claim that, when he claimed he had an "oven-ready" deal that he could "put it in the microwave as soon as we get back after the election on Friday 12th December.” he really meant the Withdrawal Agreement. But I don't plan to produce a comprehensive list of Johnson's lies: life is just too short for that.

If anyone is looking for a concise account of the Prime Minister's habitual mendacity regarding Brexit, perish the thought!, today's Guardian editorial is the place to find it.  "Boris Johnson got where he is today by telling lies about Europe. He made stories up as a journalist. He told fibs on an industrial scale in the referendum campaign. Now he is telling whoppers as prime minister too. There was an “oven-ready” EU trade deal. Not true. The chances of no deal were “absolutely zero”. Same again. Britain was prepared for any outcome after 31 December. Utterly false. The prospect of EU tariffs on British goods was “totally and utterly absurd”. Another porkie."

It's also worth noting that Australia is part of RCEP , the Asian-Pacific trade agreement, and the US is also part of the USMCA trade treaty so the UK is going out on a limb if it only has an agreement just based on WTO terms with its closest trading partners. Johnson's talking his usual rubbish again - he seemed to be smirking in one of his interviews yesterday; let's face it, he doesn't care about any lost farming or manufacturing jobs - he's a journalist so he's never actually added any real value to the economy and he probably has a safe job back at the Telegraph now he's carried out his Brexit mission for those who own it.

Everyone knows that the words 'honesty' and 'Johnson' do not fit in the same sentence, but his latest claim that we are heading for "a solution that is much more like an Australian relationship with the EU than a Canadian relationship" is bogus beyond anything we've had from him so far. Let's be clear: Australia has NO relationship with the EU, and this is a way of pretending that a no deal outcome from the negotiations isn't too bad after all. It would be more honest to say that we're heading for an Iraqi relationship or an Afghan one, but Australia is part of the Commonwealth, don't you know? so characterising it like that makes it sound all right. A lie dressed up in a friendly-sounding phrase is still a lie, and a rotten one at that. But that's Johnson all over.

I see the EU has published its contingency measures for a no deal Brexit  to cover aviation, transport and fishing. I understand these are temporary agreements that the UK would have to sign up to (they're essentially an extension of the status quo in these areas in the absence of a new agreement). What I'm not sure is if they can be agreed to separately or if it's all or nothing; that is, if there's no fishing by EU fishermen in UK waters then there's no UK planes flying to or over the EU? Concerned about the price of food?As for your standard sneer re "wannabee Bonaparte", I'd have him any day after watching BJ behaving like a badly-suited schoolboy in the presence of the articulate, accomplished and above-all civilised Ursula von Leyden.

Assuming that this fishing, over which he is making demands, is done by French fishermen, then Macron is concentrating on a French domestic issue - fishing.

Sue,You forget that the Netherlands, Germany and Denmark also wish access to British waters.  The fact that the media in this country is obsessed with Macron (and the French), it is incorrect to say he is the only one asking for fishing rights in British waters. It is also interesting to note that British fishermen are also asking for fishing rights in French, German, Scandinavian and Netherlands waters.

@IvonneWell if the wannabe Bonaparte stops sticking his oar in and making ridiculous demands over fishing we might be able to agree a deal. Deeply unpopular Macron needs to concentrate on France's domestic issues or he'll get the old heave-ho-ho-ho🎅🏼 in 2022.

If there is no agreement tonight, or an agreed extension to the talks (preferably the transition period) I will never forgive BJ or the ilk in government today.
