Having to cast my mind back to 1998! We were sat fairly near the stage. From what I recall the acoustics were fine, I think the Greeks knew how to design theatres - the main issue was the wind which had some affect on the sound but the main issue was that at one point they had to nail some scenery in place to stop it blowing over. The next problem then came at the next scene change when having nailed some piece together there was a long pause while they disconnected those pieces ... but we enjoyed watching some opera in the sun with a good humoured crowd ☺ (I don't think the ROH - or the Met - should feel under threat yet!)
